CS Teacher Mentor Application

We need CS Educators to serve as mentors. A  grant  from UKG through  Reboot Representation  has made it possible for us to offer the UF Computer  Science  Education  Graduate  Certificate program scholarships. The funder has specified that the scholarships are available for in-service teachers who are Black, Latina or Native American and identify as women.

We hope to recruit and hire an equally diverse group of experienced CS teachers to work with and mentor this cohort of new CS teachers. You have the opportunity to help guide these educators as they grow in their CS journey.

Apply today for this mentorship opportunity and one of our CSEveryone team will connect with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be compensated for being a mentor?

Yes. It is anticipated that mentors will receive a stipend of $2000 for their work with each mentee up to two mentees per mentor.

Will I receive any guidance on how to be a mentor?

Yes. We will provide resources online, as well as a couple of synchronous online sessions to detail expectations and to provide you with advice about how to build these relationships.

How long is this commitment?

You will be expected to work with your mentees as they progress through the CS Ed Certificate program for the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters (15 weeks each).

How can I apply?

Fill out the mentor application form below.

We will also schedule a short Zoom interview to ask about your experiences, to explain more about the program, and answer any questions that you may have.

What will I get from this experience?

Many people find that serving as a mentor helps them find a new appreciation for their craft. Current CS teachers recognize that we are often the only teacher in our schools. This program is being designed to provide future CS teachers with the support and consideration that we all wish we could have had when we began our journey as CS teachers. Oftentimes, mentors report gaining more from the experience than their mentees! Additionally, we will provide you with the documentation needed to earn CEU credits in your school districts.

Do I have to have CS classroom experience to serve as a mentor?

Yes. We need our mentors to be experienced CS teachers with at least a full year of experience. Other experiences are also valuable such as experience with curriculum writing, coaching, professional development, etc.

Do I have to be certified?

No. A current or previous certification is not a requirement. Classroom CS teaching experience is required. However, most of the teachers enrolled in this program will be seeking certification upon completion of the program.

What is a mentor?

A mentor is expected to serve as an adviser and supporter of these aspiring CS classroom teachers.

What are some good reasons to be a mentor?

You will be able to share with others what you have learned and help someone else to grow and succeed in the field. It is a way to positively add to the field, give you an opportunity to help others and help us grow the CS education community.

Applications are now closed as the cohort for 2022-2023 is complete.
Thank you very much for your interest.
